Communities Minister Paul Givan visited Monkstown last week on the invitation of East Antrim DUP MLA and Executive Office Minister Alastair Ross.

The two Executive Ministers spent some time at the Monkstown Jubilee Centre before taking a walk around the estate to view some of the reimagining work and visit the site new homes will be built on before a quick visit to the Monkstown Boxing Club.

Mr Ross said,

"Monkstown is a changing community, and it is important that the Communities Minister sees first hand the positive work being done in the estate.

I was delighted that Paul was able to engage with those who volunteer at the Good Morning Newtownabbey project, speak to some of the women who use the centre for social meets and learn more about the work undertaken to tackle substance abuse amongst young people.

The Minister was also shown where new homes are to be built in the estate, and heard from David McCrea and Mark Cooper about the increasing demand for further social housing in the area.

It was also a great opportunity to bring Paul to the Monkstown Boxing Club and see the important work they do not only in terms of sport but also in the other programmes they run for young people."
